Small Business Web Presence
There is no better day than today to revamp your look. At least take a look at your site and see if you are meeting a few things.
- The Customer
Let’s face it, without a customer you do not have a viable business and the more customers you have your company’s value increases in respect. I want to touch on something that is the truth. Facebook would not be what they are if it wasn’t for the people. A site today has to have an interaction for their visitor and a damn good reason why they should be there.
- A Plan
No matter what, you have to know where you are at and have an idea of where it is you want to go. A good plan has great details of anticipating the things you will need and the things you will have to have to accomplish your mission. Put it this way. You would not plan a 3 month vacation of traveling the world without some sort of detail and expecting to be somewhere at a certain time and possibly having a plan B, Being adaptable on demand, Murphy’s Law should be respected!
- Understand and Know Your Target Market
Roll your sleeves up, as this is crucial and takes some work .But by having the first two answered. Who is the Customer? The Plan to serve the customer with a plan to making some money. The research should come naturally and hopefully you did some research and crunching of numbers while developing the plan to serve the customer, targeting their needs, styles and desires.
Today is social and Informative, and your audience is watching!
You have no idea who is visiting; who walks in front of your store and sometimes you may not get to that customer in time to make a sale. They walked in, and walked out. The web is no different and having multiple ways of communicating increases your potential for a sale. I visit many business web sites, local businesses, and the interaction between the visitor and owner is limited. Join an email list at best is what I see as a common practice. There isn’t anything there to entice the potential customer a reason to give the owner their name and email. Most small businesses do not give a good reason for the potential customer to stick around, re-visit or even buy something. My question would be how many visitors do I get every day and did I capture their name and email? If there is a big difference then I would need to change that, offer something of value. The old term is “What’s in it for Me!”
Be a Rock Star, A Conductor and step up to the live show of interacting with your audience.
This is tough and can be automated. Using an email responder with pre made articles to go out to people on your email list takes a lot of the baby sitting out and delivers that interaction between the business and the customer in a timely manner. This is by far the best way to generate sales and customer re-visits as the emails would be written to entice that. Many companies do this and they know that we may not read every email but they will read them as long as they subscribed. Another saying has and is still, “the money is in the list!”
Social Interaction using social media along with an interactive web site can not only work to increase your business it will at best create a buzz about your business.
This day and age a business has to and needs to be up on what is being said. We have all heard that one customer doesn’t make your whole business but one angry customer can be like 100 mad customers. When it comes to social media, one post could start something disastrous for any company. Don’t you think it would be wise to monitor your businesses name, product and employees? No one likes bad news and I don’t think any business can afford to let a can of worms dump all over the floor. By monitoring your business this could stop the worms from spilling over and possibly stop anything before the worms got opened. Business owners take pride, at least most do, and if we can take care of a disgruntled customer before the lid is off, that is what we will do. A business owner knows that an angry customer can cost them, so make them happy quick. Social Media is growing and will grow; it needs to be a part of every business, not only for increased revenues, but to monitor what is being said about their business.
No Better Day than Today to Start
As anything it takes a plan to achieve the things one wants to achieve. I have also never heard a business owner say they have enough business; there can always be more business. So why are so many business owners not taking advantage of Social Media? It cannot be because they have too much business already. Maybe it is more fundamental than that. Maybe they just don’t know how. Maybe because it takes too much time and the business owner just doesn’t have time. Maybe it is something else. Who knows, but the thing is if you are a business owner and you do not have some of the things I have discussed working and in place you as the business owner is more than likely leaving food on the plate or money on the table. Start today!
