Titles, SEO and the Blind
I was searching the internet the other day and I wound up on some articles talking about titles in documents. I really never thought about how important titles play to the search engines and to blind people. I ended up my search on a video of a blind person. He spent some time teaching what a good page was and what a bad page was. You see, pun, a blind person’s computer reads the page to them. It starts out with the keywords and description (Meta Data) of the page and then moves onto the titles of the page. Basically the titles point to the content of the page and should always have relevancy to the keywords in the Meta tags in the description to what is in the article. These three things is what the search engines look for too. Look at it like a site map but an article map.
Even though the article may contain some of the best content and information, if the titles are not pointing to the content with relevancy of what the content is then the article just may get skipped over and never rank in the relevant world of search. Just as the blind man that comes to a page will look over the article if the top three things do not go into a little defined detail of what the article is about. Most of us writers may have been overlooking the title and the power of titles.
We knew the title was an important feature, but the more titles the better with-in the article. When blind person visits a site those titles become the first things the software will read and connect that title to the content wit-in the article. Now let’s look at a web site that sells product like modems. Just one title may not be good enough. For example, the product will need titles for reviews, technical data, how it Works, how to buy, other like items, description of the item. Maybe there just needs to be a title called article content where it can show where all this information is.
The point being that search engine optimization techniques , Titles and relevancy is key. If we look at how a blind person searches a page, how they got there and how they search a page for the information they are looking for, just maybe we will look at SEO techniques and keywords as proper as speech and how effective it should be. If you mumble how can anyone hear you. So speak up utilizing your SEO correctly so a blind person can understand it. The search engines will thank you, the handicap will thank you and I am sure our pocket book will thank you.
