Why I Blog
Posted in Archived Articles on November 30th, 2010Well thats an easy title, don’t you think? As the bills are coming due to renew my site I have to justify my blogs existence and weather I should continue the investment or just go to the free blog services and or just write on the free sites and publish from there. After all there is an awful lot you can do from a free publishing site. Just treat it as micro writing and publish from every where, but how to make money at it?
I myself understand the difference between having your own site and going the free method. One is the credibility it creates and how much more flexible it is to create to your own design. I spend around a hundred bucks a year to have my own domain and server. I will say this though, much thought should be put into what you want when it comes to your own website, you will literally have an endless amount of ways to create, change and add to your site. It all depends on how much work you want to put into it.
One thing about having a your own domain is using Word Press. To me this is so powerful you can only learn, grow, experiment and create anything in the media arena. Not only that you do not have to be a big tech wizard to use it. Sure there are so many things you can do with Word Press it is easy to get lost with all the themes, plug-ins and widgets that your head will spin off. And that is why I am saying having some kind of idea what you want it to do for you is essential before playing with it. But no big deal, playing with Word Press is fun and you can change it around with ease until you like it, thats your design.
Another great feature I like with my Word Press is people that want to comment have to register…hello that is what they call your opt-in list. Build that and you have the so called golden egg of eggs to make money from if you so choose. As far as being transparent to making money there are all sorts of ways I have read about and you can see the advertisements on blogs across the internet. People will run all sorts of adverts on the side bars. But what I think is cool are the pages.
Pages are the off shoots of your main page and will be on the side bar and part of your site. There are categories too! By utilizing the pages with other topics of interest stemming off your main page it will give your reader a place to go if they choose. Lets say you are an affiliate of Amazon.com or some other affiliate where you can make money through directing traffic that lead to sales. The idea is you can create a page that says Check out my favorite camera, book, game, service, golf clubs or charity. When your visitor checks out anything they find of interest they will be taken to your little marketing or Information. If you have a service or product a page is an ideal place for you to inform your visitor on how to take further action to a sale.
There I go, now I have to create a page just on How to Use Word Press.
Gotta keep them readers coming.
I have to say that Blogging is fun and the more I write the better I get. And I love all the words I miss spell and the word processor shows me. If I only paid attention I wouldn’t keep miss-Spelling the same words.
Blogging does have it’s rewards and it is meeting people like you. I know there are plenty of blogs that are making money and if that is what your goal is then I suggest practicing writing as that is the way to build traffic and readers of your words, thoughts, ideas, teachings and the sharing of it all. I find it very rewarding when I help someone or they get it after I may explain it in a different light.
I like to write off the cuff of my sleeve and I try to write when a new concept, idea, rage or something I have learned that i think may be or should be shared. I am a troubleshooter and for some reason see things a little different than most. I can look at something that is broke and come up with solutions to either fix it or modify it. It is something I have been blessed with but sometimes my logic and common sense is too hard to bare as I can deliver bad news to when all is lost.
To say that i would not like my blog to at least pay for itself would be a lie. So I do have a goal this year to achieve some sustainability to the financial aspect of my blog, but I am hooked and the improvement and growth of myself gives me an outlet of creativity. Since I am not working for NASA I need my blog to keep my mind sharp and learn as we move into the informational age.
Have a wonderful day,
Scott
