I am creating this page to show you how to create simple easy graphics so you can be different than your competition. Lets face it, the internet is becoming more and more competetive and many people advertise the same products as you do.

But wouldn’t it be nice to be able to come up with something that looks different than your buddy or the corporate site?

I want to show you how to use GIMP to create all your special graphics that will look as profesional as you want and or as ugly as you want.

Now anything takes practice as you get to know it. I want to say that it will not be easy, but I want to help speed up your process of learning by using video to show you. I feel hands on is always the best way and you will be able to come back if you miss something.

I will also be able to update this page when I learn something new.

Please download GIMP to get started and install it to your desktop as you will be using it as you learn and develop your own special unique graphics.

After you get everything up you should see three windows you will be working with. Don’t let this confuse you it is really simple. The one to the left sre your colors sizes design and stuff i hope you have used in paint. But there is a bit more detailed tools here than paint. Just have fun and explore. The window all the way to the right is your what is going on window as you layer your stuff. The middle one is what we use to do our work at.

Open a new file and select a standard size like a web page that is 640. This will be your canvas. As you can see there are a few different size canvases which makes it nice when it comes to wed design and all the different sized graphics you need. Iknow when i satrted out in marketing I had the hardestt time with graphic sizes and this is so easy to use just for that because you can size to anything you wish. But back to graphics.

I don’t know about you but creating a graphic to your liking can be difficult but not that hard. What comes to play is your creativity into what you want. I also know that the more you practice and work with things the easier it gets and the more creative

To work with a picture just create your size of canvas and go to file drop down and find ad an image file. There you will be able to do many things with your photo. Go through the drop downs at the top of your canvas. Look for the things like crop and copy visible. Learn to use your tools and magic wand.

The other main thing is layers. It is important to use create a new layer. You will find it in the drop downs and maybe not where you would think. I love programs and how the developer thinks when it comes to structure but i have to think that mayebe it is just the way it has to be to work in the most efficient way.

Layers are very important and i would experiment with them as you will find that you will be able to move your letters word and graphics around to place in your graphic that you are creating. It is fun and by creating layer you can do ab test to see which one you like.

Have fun with this stuff and the more you play with it the easier it gets, believe me.

After you have downloaded Gimp you will get three windows on your screen. The one to the left is all your pens, brushes ,colors, shapes, magic wand and shapes. If you are familiar with paint you will notice that there is a bit more to experiment with.

The window on the right is where your layers will show up. Layers are like taking one drawing and putting on top of another. That way you can move and or change each layer as desired. You can see all the layers together or take one away at a time. When you have created your graphic you will always need to save it. After that you can size it and take your final graphic and save it into your documents in jpeg or other formats of your choice. What ever your needs are you will have something original created by you.

The center window is your drawing board. Gimp makes it pretty easy when it comes to sizing your canvas. You can make banners, small graphics or header graphic. But to make things easy you should have a size in mind for where your graphic is going to fit.
