I feel that this is a redundant topic as there are a ton of articles online that cover this topic. But this is for those that want to know more or just how to get started with WordPress.

First, not all hosting services are the same and you can go with one that makes it easy or makes it hard to create the things you want to create. Avoid GoDaddy, they are difficult at best. Blue Host is okay but if you want a hosting company that is superior to all the ones I have seen and used HostGator is by far the one to use. Their c-panel has everything plus you will need to give your site a standing chance to be seen by Google and sharing on the internet. The cost to get one year of hosting is less than $100 and will allow more than one domain. You can also get your domain there and I would highly recommend that too.

If you have a domain already and want HostGator you will need to point your domain to HostGator using a thing called DNS, Domain Network Server. A server is like your computer holding files that can be displayed on the internet. Some familiar file extensions would be like html, pdf and index and the topic wp.

There are two things that you will have to become familiar with to manipulate and control your web site. The c-panel and ftp , file transfer protocol. Most c-panels have ftp but I like using FileZilla to transfer files from my computer to my website.

Once you are in your c-panel with your new domain, or old domain there are a few things you will want to do. One is configure your email. Hostgator has a complete tutorial on doing this. The next thing is getting your WordPress site up. All the way at the bottom of the c-panel you will see a button called Fantastico. Open that up. You will see so many different things that you can install on your website you could never get bored learning them and possibly applying them, but for now let’s install WordPress.

WordPress will want to know a few particulars before it installs. One you will be able to make wordpress your main page for your site or you will be able to make a sub directory. Here are two examples of that.

http://MyAeroponics.com is using WP as the front page

http://MyAeroponics.com/GrowLights is a sub Directory

http://MyAeroponics.com/FertilizersandPlant_Food is a sub directory

http://ScottwKelley.com is an index page

http://Scottwkelley.com/blog is using a sub directory

http://Scottwkelley.com/twister is using a sub directory

So give it some thought as this cannot be redone, well it can but you will be deleting and recreating.

Next you will fill in the obvious stuff like admin name, password and email. The description can be changed later. Hit install and send the info after installed to your email address of choice for safe keeping.

For those using My Money Mobiles the next steps are to put the theme and am plugin onto your new WP site. At My Money Mobiles download the theme and plugin to your desktop and do not unzip them. Keep them in a zipped file as wordpress only takes them this way. Go to your new wordpress admin and log in. Go to themes and find the option upload. There upload the theme from your desktop and after it is loaded activate it. Do the same thing through the plugins on the dashboard and upload the am generator. Next go back to the tutorial at your member money mobiles and getter done to get your site up.
